Douglas Esson

Dr. Douglas Esson is a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. His many areas of interest and expertise include corneal surgery, high-risk cataract surgery, the management of glaucoma, exotic animal ophthalmology, clinical research and the developing field of telemedicine.

Dr. Esson has trained vet students, general veterinarians, interns, residents and ophthalmologists including industry and biotech professionals. His scientific manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed journals including Veterinary Ophthalmology, the Journal of Glaucoma, Science, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science & the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. He has authored texts including sections in “Veterinary Ophthalmology”, “Glaucoma” and “Veterinary Ophthalmic Surgery” as well as his own “Clinical Atlas of Canine & Feline Ophthalmic Disease”. Dr. Esson has also presented his research and clinical studies at ACVO, ECVO, ESVO, WSAVA, ARVO, AGS & AAO and is a consultant ophthalmologist with the Comparative Ophthalmic Research Laboratories (CORL) of Wisconsin & New World Medical (California), a member of the University of Florida’s Center for Vision Research and an associate member of the American Glaucoma Society (AGS).

Dr. Esson is well known in the Southern California veterinary community where he has practiced and worked closely with the profession for over ten years. He regularly teaches and hosts wet labs and his volunteer work with wildlife has appeared in numerous publications and syndicated television shows. He is involved with multiple conservation organizations and projects and is also A regularly invited international speaker.

When not practicing ophthalmology, Dr. Esson enjoys spending time with his wife Dr Sara Calvarese DACVO who is also a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist! Dr Esson & Dr Calvarese met during their surgical training at the Magrane Science Course and share a love of science, ophthalmology and animals of all kinds.

Federico Fracassi

Federico Fracassi graduated in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) “cum laude” State University of Bologna. At the same Faculty he followed an internship. In 2005 he defended his PhD thesis. After the PhD he become Assistant Professor (2006-now) at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences – University of Bologna.

He completed an Alternative Residency in Internal Medicine at the Clinic for Small Animal Internal Medicine, University of Zurich, Switzerland and gained his status of European Specialist in Internal Medicine in 2012 (Diplomate ECVIM-CA).

Duties include patient care, education (to students, post graduate training and training of interns and residents) and research in internal medicine of companion animals, with special emphasis on endocrinology. 

He is the vice president of the European Society of Veterinary Endocrinology (ESVE), president of the Italian Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine (SIMIV) and editor of “Veterinaria”, a peer review journal. His publication list consists of journal articles, research abstracts, case reports and book chapters.

His main research focus is the field of small animal endocrinology.

Jessica A. Miller

Dr. Jessica A. Miller is a Diplomate of an American College of Internal Medicine in Neurology. She obtained her DVM degree in Ohio State University (College of Veterinary Medicine). In 2019 she got a Certification in Neurosurgery from ACVIM.

She is working in BluePearl Pet Hospital, Maitland, Florida at Neurology and Neurosurgery department.

Matthew Pead

Prior to his current posts at the RVC Dr Pead has been the head of the Small Animal Medicine and Surgery group and head of Small animal orthopaedics. He has also worked at the RVC Beaumont Animals’ Hospital, Glasgow Veterinary School and in general practice. In the research field he has been active in research into the physiology of bone and the mechanism of bone disease in both humans and animals.

Dr Pead is a trustee of Battersea Dog and Cats home, and the AO UK educational foundation.  Dr. Pead is the current Chairman of the AO VET UK educational foundation for learning in orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Pead is particularly interested in fracture repair, arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement surgery. Despite a particular interest in small animal orthopaedics and rheumatology Dr. Pead enjoys working in neurosurgery and soft tissue surgery especially in the out of hours service, and is happy to assist colleagues in farm, equine and exotic practice when orthopaedic skills are called on.

Teresa Goodson

Dr.Teresa L.Goodson is a Diplomate ACVIM Small Animal Internal Medicine and working in BluePearl hospital, Maitland, Florida. She was graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and obtained degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, in May 1997.

Simon Tappin

Simon trained at the University of Cambridge and, after qualifying, spent 2 years in small animal practice before taking up a Residency in Small Animal Medicine and Intensive Care at the University of Bristol. He joined DWR in 2007. He holds the Royal College Certificate in Small Animal Medicine and the European Diploma in Veterinary Internal Medicine. He is an active member of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association and editor of Companion Journal. Simon particularly enjoys critical care and has been instrumental in developing the Interventional Radiology service at DWR, using minimally invasive techniques and bio-materials to treat many conditions which previously required more invasive surgery. He has lectured widely in the UK and Europe on subjects including emergency medicine and interventional radiology. Simon’s current research interests are the prevalence of the multi drug resistance gene within the UK and the implications on disease etiology.

Ronnie Kaufmann

Dr. Kaufmann graduated from the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. After graduation she joined a team of a private veterinary hospital and emergency center where she worked as a general practitioner until 2010. In 2010 she began her residency in dermatology and in 2017 was certified as a diplomate by The European college of Veterinary Dermatology. During her residency she completed training in specific areas of interest such as Dermato-Histopathology, Immunology and Equine Dermatology, held by the European Society of Veterinary Dermatology.

Tatyana Khramova

She is a veterinary surgeon specializing in soft tissue surgery. The main interest in surgery lies in the field of oncosurgery, thoracic and complex abdominal surgery, wound treatment and reconstructive surgery. The principles of her work is evidence-based medicine.

Dr Khramova began her surgical experience in 2009, and since 2014, soft tissue surgery has become the main and her only specialization.

She worked in large clinics in Ukraine as a surgeon as well as head of the surgical department, since January 2019 – as a reference surgeon, and a consultant.

She is a regular listener of conferences in Ukraine and abroad. Member of USAVA (FECAVA, WSAVA), BSAVA, St. Petersburg Veterinary Society.

In 2016, she completed an internship at the surgery department of the «Belyi Klyk» veterinary clinic (Moscow).

In 2018, she received a BSAVA Travel Scholarship, which gives her the opportunity to attend the BSAVA Congress in Birmingham (April 2019). Also in 2019 she attended the congresses of FECAVA, EERVC, NVC, Purina Partners. In 2020 – International Nephrology Congress.

Education: Dr. Kostiuk graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 2000.

Professional Pathway: Following clinical veterinary practice in Alberta with farm and domestic animals, Darcia focused her career in regulatory veterinary medicine, working for federal and provincial governments, and continued to occasionally work in clinics to support clinical skills. Darcia has worked with Champion Petfoods in areas such as the government auditor for their pet food export program, and this sparked her interest in Champion Petfoods and companion animal nutrition.

Career: Darcia joined Champion Petfoods in March 2019. Her focus is researching medicated pet foods and supporting the customer service team. She is the head of the Champion Petfoods veterinary program, which includes veterinary schools, the education of veterinary assistants.
